We want your new boat experience to be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. To achieve this, we’ve created this guide to outline the key stages of delivery and commissioning, along with important guidelines to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Every new boat ordered through YACHTS.CO goes through several phases in a set order. This process is designed for efficiency and to avoid mistakes.
1. Pre-Build Phase
The journey begins when we sign the agreement. If your boat is not already in build, we’ll immediately book your build slot and submit the initial specification to the factory.
During this stage, minor specification changes are usually possible, but major decisions—such as layout and wood finishes—should be finalized early. Smaller items can often be adjusted later by agreement with the factory.
2. Factory Build Phase
Once your boat enters production, the specification becomes fixed to ensure smooth progress and correct parts. This phase ends when the boat is completed and ready for collection—known as “Ex-Factory.”
At this point, the factory requires full payment, and we will request the balance from you. If you’ve arranged financing through us, we’ll coordinate everything with your lender. From this stage, it typically takes 3–4 weeks until you take possession.
3. Delivery
Your boat will be transported—usually by truck—to either the UK or an agreed commissioning port in the Mediterranean. We’ll discuss and confirm the best option with you when signing the contract.
4. Commissioning
Commissioning includes installing any dealer-supplied or aftermarket equipment and completing all finishing touches. This process usually takes 2–3 weeks.
We understand you’ll be eager to get on board, but rushing this stage can lead to errors. Commissioning is one of the most critical phases in your boat’s lifecycle, and we insist it’s done thoroughly.
Important guidelines during commissioning:
Do not load or store personal items on the boat or send them to our office—we cannot store them securely. We can recommend local storage facilities if needed.
You cannot stay on the boat during commissioning as it will be an active work site.
Any additional items after the initial order require a written Change Order and must be paid in full before work begins.
Please finalize any commissioning additions at least 30 days before arrival to ensure parts availability.
Outside vendors are not permitted during commissioning due to insurance and scheduling constraints.
5. Handover
About two weeks before commissioning is complete, we’ll contact you to schedule your formal handover. This includes:
A technical briefing
Familiarization with systems
A sea trial
Exact dates depend on factors like deliveries, weather, and factory schedules—thank you for your understanding.
At handover, any warranty items or deficiencies will be noted and addressed promptly. Once you remove your boat from the handover pontoon, you accept it “as-is,” with any noted issues documented. For future warranty claims, please follow the outlined procedures to avoid unnecessary costs or delays.
After Handover
We recommend spending a few days onboard to test all systems and create a “punch list” of any issues. Bring this list back to us promptly so we can address them.
Choose a marina with good access to trades for your first season, as this will make resolving any issues easier.
